The Kroger Co. operates retail food and drug stores, multi-department stores, jewelry stores and convenience stores throughout the United States. The Company also manufactures and processes some of the food for sale in its supermarkets. It reported over US$60 billion in sales during its most recent fiscal year and is the top grocery retailer in the country and third-place general retailer in the country, behind Wal-Mart and The Home Depot. As of November 10, 2007, the Company operated, either directly or through its subsidiaries, 2,487 supermarkets and multi-department stores under two dozen banners, including Kroger, Ralphs, Fred Meyer, Food 4 Less, King Soopers, Smith’s, Fry’s, Fry’s Marketplace, Dillons, QFC and City Market. Of these stores, 678 had fuel centers. The Kroger Co., either directly or through subsidiaries, operated 782 convenience stores, 405 fine jewelry stores, and 1,960 pharmacies.
