Company Snapshot:

Verint is a company that provides domestic intelligence surveillance technology worldwide. The U.S. government is one of its customers. Veteran investigative journalist James Bamford, talking in an interview with Amy Goodman on Democracy Now! on October 14, 2008, named Verint one of the companies the NSA uses in its surveillance program at AT&T and Verizon. Bamford was discussing his forthcoming book: "The Shadow Factory: The Ultra-Secret NSA from 9/11 to the Eavesdropping on America."

"Two of its main domestic spying products are "STAR-GATE" and "RELIANT". The RELIANT system acts as a government agency's big ear, collecting and managing intercepted voice, e-mail, fax, SMS, data, chat, and Web browsing -- all on a single platform."

Accountability overview:

Verint and its parent company, Comverse, have been delisted from Nasdaq after its founder and CEO, Jacob Alexander (a former Israeli intelligence officer) was charged in 2006 with multiple counts of fraud to the tune of some $57 million dollars. Alexander is continuously delaying extradition to the USA from the country he’s fled to: Namibia, Africa.
